“Blow dry bars” have been popping up in major cities all over the United States. The concept is simple. Stop in for a quick hair wash and blowout, and look your best for whatever reason you choose. Celebrities have long been hooked on getting their hair professionally blown out right before a party or performance. Now this is possible in Oceanside.

Taiz Alexander, who opened Blowout Couture in February, has more than a decade of experience in the beauty industry. She has partaken in every facet — as receptionist, hairdresser, nail technician, esthetician, and spa manager. Cognizant of all there is to run a salon, she wanted to own one and be her own boss. She chose the concept of the blow dry bar, specializing in that finishing touch.

Blowout Couture specializes in blowouts, up-does, hair extensions and makeup applications for women and girls. Everyone who works there is a professional hair stylist, fully licensed as a New York State cosmetologist. (This is the license needed to provide service to the hair, head, face, neck or scalp of a human being.)  If you happen to need your bangs trimmed or would like a haircut, just ask. Time permitting, they will accommodate. In the near future, they will also be selling hair products and makeup.

Blowout Couture is cozy and feminine, with a pretty décor of gray, white and black. Unlike most salons which have stations, this salon has patrons sitting around a table. It’s homey. Elegant chandeliers and fireplace add to its warmth. Coffee and water are always available.

Women or girls who are part of wedding parties, sweet 16s, communions and other special occasions can get their finishing touches here. Groups can arrange for a “Ladies Night Out,” where everyone can get their hair done, have some wine and cheese, and socialize.

A wonderful idea for a child’s or teen’s birthday is a “Glamour Party.” Girls get their hair washed and blown, a party manicure (polish only), age-appropriate makeup, and participate in a runway walk. And let’s not forget the pizza and other refreshments.

Blowout Couture is conveniently located between Blossom Heathe (if you need flowers) and Nick the Tailor. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are advisable. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tuesdays are by appointment only, and they are closed on Monday.
