A Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grille will soon be opening in East Meadow. The franchise announced that its second Long Island location will have its grand opening at the end of September at 1740 Hempstead Turnpike.

A 6,946 sq.-ft. building will be the first business at the location since its former occupant, Hooters, closed its doors in late 2012. It will seat approximately 300 guests, said restaurant spokeswoman Kristi Betz, and hire 100 new employees.

The franchise also has a location in Franklin Square, at 700 Hempstead Turnpike. It first opened in Ocean City, Md. in 1976, and has 42 locations in five states and the District of Columbia, said Betz. Restaurant officials say their facilities have a casual ambiance that accommodates to sports fans.

In celebration of its grand opening, the restaurant announced it will reward its first 100 guests with one free burger, sandwich or appetizer per month for the first year. One prize per customer will be rewarded with a proof of purchase, and will be based upon entry order and as supplies last.

“We are thrilled to further expand our presence in New York with the opening of our second location on Long Island,” said Matt Monastero, general manager of The Greene Turtle in East Meadow. “We’re excited to bring our love for food and sports to East Meadow and to get to know the community. We look forward to hosting many sports fans, especially given our close proximity to Hofstra University. Go Pride!”
