Hazmat called to East Meadow home

The Nassau County Police Department reported an unusual incident that occurred on Thursday, July 21, at 3:15 in East Meadow.

First Precinct Police responded to a call from an elderly woman on Powers Avenue needing aid. Upon arrival, officers’ discovered at least 40 dogs at the residence and a strong odor. The Nassau County Police HAZMAT Unit was called to the scene due to the smell.

The NCSPCA, the Town of Hempstead building department and the Nassau County Fire Marshal were also at the scene to remove the animals and condemn the residence. The elderly resident was transported in a police ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.
