Hewitt Girls Scouts help with recycling

Junior Girl Scout Troop 808 recently raised over $300 to buy recycling bins that were put in the classrooms and fields of Hewitt Elementary School.

The group of 17 girls recently held a bake sale and raised enough money to buy bins to put in 24 classrooms and three more larger containers for the school’s soccer field and playground.

The troop and their leaders credited Hewitt principal Elizabeth Pryke for the success of the program.

“Mrs. Pryke has been a great supporter of our efforts to promote recycling,” said co-troop leader Jamie Devine.

The bin purchases will go toward the Take Action part of the journey that the troop has to complete before going for the Bronze Award. The girls will receive patches once the journey is complete. Their goal is to see even more recycling pails in Rockville Centre.
