Work is also being done to improve the 15-year-old Aquatic Center. According to LaBaw, new air conditioning and heating systems will be installed in the complex before the end of the year.

Next year, LaBaw said, a heated, outdoor 100- by 200-foot pool will be built next to the Aquatic Center, complete with a cover for inclement weather. It will be called the Myrtha Pool, he said, and will serve as a warmup pool, to bring the center “up to competition standards.”

Eisenhower Park will also undergo parking lot improvements as part of the development. The Aquatic Center main lot, which has about 90 parking spots, will more than double in size, a project that will be completed by October, according to LaBaw. Two more parking lots will be added to the north and south of the completed Ice Center.

The work on the parking lots and the Aquatic Center will be funded by the county’s capital improvement fund.

The construction, Martino said, is designed to coincide with the redevelopment of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale. “Everything is dovetailing in,” said Martino. “This is the county executive’s vision for reimagining the Hub.”
