Kids keep on truckin’ at Eisenhower Park

Posted

Youngsters had the chance to climb on, play in and simply explore more than 40 unique vehicles at Touch-A-Truck at Eisenhower Park last Saturday.

The family-friendly event, hosted by Cox Media Group Long Island’s 102.3 WBAB and 106.1 BLI and Nassau County, was held in Kite Field at the East Meadow park. For five hours, children from across the region honked horns, touched steering wheels and sat inside of trucks that are usually off limits to them.

Parents snapped photographs of their kids in big rigs, fire trucks, police and emergency rescue trucks, military vehicles and construction equipment. Local groups also got involved, as the East Meadow Fire Department brought some of their apparatus down to Eisenhower for all of the festivities.

Attendees were also encouraged to bring donations to help organizers “stuff-a-truck” for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, county leaders said. The charity organization provides comfort to families experiencing the pain of having a sick child in local hospital facilities. Non-perishable food, paper goods and cleaning supplies were collected at the event, officials said.
