Kiwanis collects food for the holidays

Continuing a holiday tradition, East Meadow Kiwanis Club members stationed themselves outside of two local supermarkets last weekend to collect donations in order to provide meals for local families for Passover and Easter.

The club, which holds similar fundraisers for the Thanksgiving ,Christmas and Hanukkah seasons, had booths outside of Waldbaums, on 1530 Front St., and Stop & Shop, on 2425 Hempstead Turnpike, on Saturday and Sunday.

Club members use the food and monetary donations to deliver food baskets to local families in the East Meadow School District living under trying circumstances.

The club collected so much last weekend, said member Ivan Launer, that they only need to fundraise one day next weekend to meet their quota.

Look for the Kiwanians at both Waldbaums and Stop & Shop on Sunday, between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
