The 3.1-mile race will start on school grounds on Devon Street, loop around the building on residential streets, head south on Prospect Avenue toward East Meadow Avenue and then north on Front Street, to Roosevelt Avenue, before turning south and finishing on Franklin Avenue.

The fun run path will stay closer to the school, beginning on Franklin Avenue and looping around to end on the school’s playing fields.

In addition to the races, the day will feature live entertainment, raffles and a bouncy castle for kids. All race participants will receive a free T-shirt, but must register before Oct. 1 to be guaranteed one. Bagelicious will offer free bagels throughout the day.

Simone, who has taught at McVey for eight years, coaches football at East Meadow High School and used to coach lacrosse at Woodland Middle School. He said he is hoping to have 300 participants between the two races, and, after the exhaustive preparations, is both nervous and excited for the day to come.

It’s also his goal, he said, to make the race an annual event. “Teaching the younger students how to take care of their bodies and stay healthy is something that could last them their whole life,” Simone said. “If they could bring that home, and now you have the whole family involved, it will make the community a much better place.”
