Food, fun, glitz and glam took center state at the Madison Theatre as Molloy College presented its “Taste of the Oscars” event on Feb. 10, which came on the heels of the 89th Annual Academy Awards.

The elegant night began with a live red carpet event and restaurant exposition, in which patrons got to sample food and wine from dozens of Long Island restaurants, including The Flour Shoppe Café, Mesita and Cannon’s Blackthron in Rockville Centre. There were also pop-up retail shops that sold clothing and jewelry.

Following the expo was the “Glitz and Glam Fashion Show,” where male and female models got to show off the latest clothing trends from the area’s top retailers. Guests were then treated to live entertainment with songs and dance numbers.

Joan MacNaughton, the owner of Leggs Ltd. Dancers in Rockville Centre, was the event coordinator and her dance troupe performed routines to Oscar-nominated songs. One of MacNaughton’s dancers was Caroline Longworth, a junior at South Side High School.

There was also an award presentation honoring Sal Valentinetti, a Long Island singer who gained notoriety with his rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” during his audition on “America’s Got Talent.” He advanced to the finals of the competition. Valentinetti performed the Sinatra hit again that night.

All proceeds went to Valentinetti’s Rising Star Scholarship, which will send three underprivileged children to music or film camp.
