A car crash on Hempstead Turnpike late Monday night resulted in the death of 58-year-old Ming Deng from East Meadow, and the arrest of a 28-year-old Hicksville man on manslaughter charges.

Nassau County police said Justin Daley was driving east in a 2003 Nissan Sentra at 11:40 p.m. at “a high rate of speed” when he struck a 2013 Honda, driven by Deng, in the rear.

The impact redirected the Honda to the southeast corner of the highway, and it eventually came to rest east of Conti Square Boulevard, police said.

Deng, was pronounced dead at 12:05 a.m. at the Nassau University Medical Center.

Daley was arrested at the scene, and transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for a leg injury, police said. He was charged with second-degree man- slaughter.

Deng worked as a technician in the neurology department at the NUMC.

According to a Herald source, as well as various media reports, Daley was fleeing police at the time of the crash. But the NCPD made no mention of that in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon.

The eastbound lanes of Hempstead Turnpike, between the intersections at Front Street and Carman Avenue, were closed for more than an hour on Monday morning while police investigated.
