It was a celebration of Irish culture in the St. Raphael’s parish gymnasium last Saturday, as the Knights of Columbus Pope Pius XII hosted its annual Knights at the Races.

The event comprises traditional Irish food (corned beef and cabbage) and music, and a race where residents served as jockeys and, based on a roll of a dice, competed to cross a finish line first.

Al Swiderski, of the Knights of Columbus, said the event presents a fun evening of community involvement for local residents, and particularly for seniors. “We provide them with nice entertainment, a meal, liquid refreshment and enjoyment,” he said.

More than 200 people attended the festivities, Swiderski said. The money raised, he said, will be divided between the church and to the Knights of Columbus’ charitable fund.
