He added that any renovations should include a 100,000 square-foot convention center, housing, restaurants and bars, and that a unique transportation system should be built to connect the Coliseum site with nearby train stations, such as a monorail, bus or trolley system. “It’s pretty far-reaching and visionary … but anything is possible,” Haber said. “If we don’t do something unique now, we will continue on this slow path of decay that Nassau County has for the last 20 years.”

Regarding Mangano’s plan, Haber said that while getting shovels in the ground would be a step in the right direction, he wished the county executive would have sought more public input. He also expressed his desire to use local labor for all construction. “We have to do something because doing nothing is just not an option,” Haber said.
