In the race for the 17th Assembly District, East Meadow resident Tom McKevitt is seeking re-election and is being challenged by Kevin Brady, of Levittown.

McKevitt, a Republican, is running for his fifth term as assemblyman. In addition to his work in government, he is a member of the American, New York State and Nassau County Bar associations; an East Meadow Kiwanis and East Meadow Chamber of Commerce member and served as a mentor to students at Woodland Middle School.

Brady, a member of the Working Families party, was the first gay man elected to the Stony Brook University Senate. He became the lead senator on a $2.5 million budget — an endowment derived mostly from the Student Activity Fee paid for by students. Before graduating, he formed a new political party to cultivate reform-minded leaders and gained a majority of Senate seats during his last election. In Levittown, Brady worked on the County Legislator campaign for Eva Pearson, an Air Force veteran, single mother and fiscal conservative. He is also the co-founder of Save Levittown Planned Residence District, a successful community petition to stop condominiums from being built near single-family homes.

In the race for the 17th Assembly District, East Meadow resident Tom McKevitt is seeking re-election and is being challenged by Kevin Brady, of Levittown.The 17th District includes portions of Uniondale, Hempstead, East Meadow, Levittown, Bethpage, Plainedge, Farmingdale, North Massapequa, Massapequa, Massapequa Park and Seaford.
