What you need to know during the storm in East Meadow

Schools, library closed on Tuesday

East Meadow residents can check here to learn what is open and what is closed in the local community over the next few days, as several inches of snow or more is projected to be dropped across Long Island.

The East Meadow School District said all of its schools will be closed on Tuesday. All  Regents examinations will be rescheduled. Officials advised students to check their high school's website for information regarding Regents examinations.

The East Meadow Public Library will be closed on Tuesday.

Nassau County announced that the Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park closed at 4 p.m. on Monday. There is a delayed opening scheduled for Tuesday, but officials conceded the facility may be be closed all day.

County officials also closed all parks at 4 p.m. and saif they will not not reopen "until safe."

Visiting hours at the Nassau County Correctional Center were suspended on Monday and will remain that way through Wednesday morning.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray has declared a state of emergency in the township, ceasing all park activities at 1 p.m. on Monday, and it will remain inactive through Wednesday, according to a notice on the town website.

The town asks residents to remove their parked vehicles from streets so plows can remove snow eficiently anf effectively. 

Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow canceled religious school for Monday. A pre-scheduled Bingo night on Tuesday is postponed. The temple main office will also be closed on Tuesday,

At St. Raphael's, all parish activities are canceled on Tuesday with the exception of morning mass.

The Nassau University Medical Center said it has increased its staff, and outfitted ambulances and emergency vehicles with snow traveling gear, in anticipation of a "large increase" in patients. As of Monday, the hospital had 380 patients.

Hospital officials warned of misuse of snow blowers, generators and other equipment, as will as over exertion from removing snow, which could lead to major injuries.

The hospital's outpatient health centers and hospital clinics will be closed on Tuesday. Ambulances will be available for transport, if needed.

The Twin Rinks ice skating complex at Eisenhower Park will close at 2 p.m. on Monday. For updates on Tuesday's schedule, rink officials urged residents to check twinrinkseisenhower.com.

County Executive Ed Mangano reminded residents that WARMBED, an Emergency Shelter Relief Program for homeless individuals and families during the winter months, is open. The program can be reached at 1-866-927-6233.

The Nassau County Non-Emergency Hotline is active. 1-800-315-5153 will be in operation throughout the duration of the storm. All life-threatening emergencies should be reported to 911.
