What's happening in East Meadow this week

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and the Veterans Service Agency announced that 280 veterans will be added to the Walls of Honor in Eisenhower Park at a ceremony on Saturday, June 25 at 10 a.m.

Nearly 8,500 veterans will have been added to the Walls of Honor since the Monument Committee and Nassau County Veterans Monument Fund were established in 1991. 

 The Nassau County Veterans Monument Fund, Inc. is a private organization that collects a $100 donation for each veteran’s name to be added to the Walls. For applications, please call 516-804-5802. Donations can be mailed to The Nassau County Veterans Monument Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 7911, Hicksville, 11802-7911.

The Walls of Honor are open to all those who have served our great nation and were honorably discharged whether they served during war time or peace time.

Dive into summer

East Meadow will welcome elite athletes to the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park this Saturday, as the United States Synchronized Swimming Junior Olympics Championship will kick off. Families from across the region are invited to watch the star swimmers compete for a chance to attend the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Daily tickets for the contest, which runs through July 2, are $10; weekly passes cost $35. Info: (516) 571-4225.

Celebrate Israel

Head over to the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park on Sunday to celebrate Israeli American music and culture. This free outdoor show, which is part of the County Parks’ International Music Nights Concert Series, will begin at 8 p.m. There is no formal seating, so concert-goers are urged to bring folding chairs. Enjoy an Italian feast with the Knights of Columbus, Pope Pius XII Council No. 4422 at their next pasta party. Come down to the Bethany Center at St. Rapael’s Roman Catholic Church, at 600 Newbridge Road, at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday for pasta, meatballs, sausage, bread, beer, wine, soda, coffee dessert with friends.
