It was an evening of accolades as the East Meadow Board of Education honored PTA members and exemplary students during its April 19 public meeting.

Under the batons of Molly Tittler and John Marshall, the W.T. Clarke Middle School Brass Ensemble and Woodland Middle School Sixth-Grade Jazz Band performed for the trustees, central administration and parents.

PTA members who were given special recognition for their volunteerism and advocacy for the district’s students included Cleo Gakshteyn, Richard Gakshteyn, Laurie May, Tracy Pulice, Marcee Rubinstein, Maria Smith, Mary Ward and Marian Wawryk.

Students from both middle schools also received tribute, as they were honored as Terrific Kids for March and April. Sponsored by the East Meadow Kiwanis Club, the award recognizes sixth through eighth-grade students who consistently improve as individuals and demonstrate a positive attitude, good character and responsible citizenship.

The district congratulated W.T. Clarke students Shanza Ahmed, Juan Sebastian Ballesteros, Ameil Cherisme, Juan Sebastian Fajardo, Angelina Ferrara, Isabella Mendez, Dominic Murawski, Aidan Piotrowski, Brian Rosen, Kamal Shah, Dennis Vestrand and Ryan Vetter; as well as Woodland students Josue Avila, Katelyn Entenmann, Keira Geoghegan, Hannah Jacob, Ilyana Kleiner, Kyle Kozlowski, Katherine Nunez, Andy Rivera, Corey Schwartz, John Tucker, Charlotte Viola and Justin Walwyn.
