Nancy Scherr, an East Meadow resident of 22 years, is being honored by the East Meadow Simcha Chapter of Hadassah for her contributions to the organization. On April 19 at Temple Beth Shalom, in Roslyn Heights, she will receive its Myrtle Wreath Award.

Through Hadassah, Jewish women connect with and encourage each other to affect change through advocacy, advancing health and well-being and support of Israel. The Myrtle Wreath Award is one of the most prestigious awards granted by each chapter of Haddasah to someone who has made significant contributions to Jewish life in the United States or in Israel in the areas of politics, diplomacy, science, the arts or organization work.

Scherr joined the East Meadow chapter of Haddasah in 2001 and immediately became a life member. She is being honored for her organizational work as Records Administrator for the chapter. This year, she took on the project of producing and creating their annual calendar journal. She participated heavily in other fundraisers throughout the year, while juggling her real estate business at Douglas Elliman.

Scherr was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens before moving to East Meadow as an adult to settle down and raise her family. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Buffalo State College before studying Interior Design at F.I.T. Her ability to visualize a concept comes from her years as an interior designer where she was able to bring clients what they wanted by listening to their input and meeting their needs. She now uses these skills to help both buyers and sellers.
