Truck catches on fire on East Meadow Avenue

Posted

A portion of East Meadow Avenue was closed on Dec. 21 after a truck carrying furniture caught on fire, according to East Meadow Fire Department ex-Chief John O’Brien Sr.

At 7:25 a.m., Engines 1, 2 and Ladder 1 responded to a truck entirely engulfed in flames stationed below power lines at the East Meadow Avenue and Stone Avenue intersection, O’Brien said. First Asst. Chief Phil Fertitta arrived on the scene, and confirmed that the flames burned the power lines. Before firefighters aimed their water hoses at the truck, O’Brien said that they checked the truck to ensure that it was free of hazardous chemicals, gases or solids.

Third Asst. James Walsh assisted on the scene as firefighters set up a line of attack to extinguish the fire, which took about 15 minutes to completely stamp out. The cargo area of the truck was a complete loss, O’Brien said. No injuries were reported. Nassau County Police assisted the East Meadow Fire Department.
