W.T. Clarke named a National Blue Ribbon school

W.T. Clarke High School in the East Meadow School District is one of four Long Island schools to be named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School.

The honor was given to 349 schools throughout the United States on Oct. 1. W.T. Clarke was selected for its overall academic performance, but schools were also chosen for their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

W.T. Clarke was named an Exemplary High Performing school and was nominated by the New York State Education Department.

“By working together with our parents, teachers, administrators and support staff at every level, along with our Board of Education and community-at-large, we have embraced the adage that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’,” said Principal Timothy Voels. “Each and every person connected with our schools should be proud of this award.”

The National Blue Ribbon honor affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

A two-day awards ceremony is scheduled for November in Washington, D.C. where district officials will be on hand to celebrate this prestigious recognition.

Superintendent Kenneth Card Jr. congratulated Principal Voels, the teachers, staff and students. “This award is a tremendous honor and should be celebrated,” he said.
