To get into the Halloween spirit, W.T. Clarke Middle School of the East Meadow School District held its second annual pumpkin contest for students to show off the art skills.

Students were given the opportunity to crave or design a pumpkin with the prospect of winning prizes. The entries were placed in the lunchroom for judging during a two-day period and were also displayed for the Halloween Recreation Night on Oct. 26. Each student in the school had an opportunity to vote during the process.

Top winners each received a bushel of fun Halloween crafts, candy and snacks. The first-place winner was Connor Jones for his “Popcorn Pumpkin” creation, placing second was Shay Genna for her “Minecraft Pumpkin” and third place Juliet Cimaglia for her “Oscar the Grouch Pumpkin.” Other awards were given for creativity and recognized such favorites as “Donut Pumpkins,” “Smurf Pumpkins,” “Stranger Things Pumpkin” and “Winnie the Pooh Pumpkin.”

All pumpkins can be viewed on the middle school Twitter account @WTClarkeMS.
