Unlike Lynbrook, the Village of East Rockaway’s March 19 election will be uncontested, as Mayor Bruno Romano, Trustee Rich Bilello and Trustee Gordon Fox run for re-election without opposition.
In the wake of two cyberattacks of the district’s computer systems — one successful and one unsuccessful — Lynbrook school officials announced at the Feb. 13 Board of Education meeting that they were searching for ways to make the district’s network more secure.
In response to the posting of a photo of a man holding a semi-automatic rifle on an anonymously managed, politically focused Facebook page, Lynbrook’s deputy mayor and mayoral challenger, Hilary Becker, hosted a news conference last week at which he announced that he feared for his family’s safety. Mayor Alan Beach called Becker’s move a “political ploy.”
Steve Freifeld said he was in “total shock” when he walked into the Lynbrook High School auditorium for the Feb. 7 Founders Day celebration, hosted by the Lynbrook Council of PTAs, and saw his friends, family members and former students applauding him. The Marion Street PTA was giving Freifeld its highest honor — awarded only three other times by the PTA.
