A Q&A with Lynbrook's newest village trustee

Posted

At June 1’s meeting of the Lynbrook village board, members of the board and the public welcomed the village’s newest trustee, Ann Marie Reardon.

Reardon, 42, currently works as a clerk in the state assembly office, and has lived in the village for more than a decade with her husband and their four children. She is a graduate of Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Adelphi University in Garden City.

At her appointment, Mayor Hendrick said Reardon was the board’s first choice to replace former trustee Thomas Atkinson, who stepped down from the post at the same meeting. The Herald spoke with Reardon about her first few weeks on the job and her plans for the future.

Herald: How did you become a trustee?

Reardon: When former Trustee Tom Atkinson decided to accept the position of judge, after William Gaylor stepped down to run for the Nassau county legislature seat that Francis X. Becker previously held, the mayor approached me about the position of becoming a trustee. I was honored and felt enormously privileged for an opportunity to serve, and, after speaking with my family about it, I accepted the nomination.

Herald: Did you have any political aspirations before being asked to become trustee?

Reardon: I never had any political aspirations, but coming from a social work background and knowing what it is like in the trenches helping people, I decided that this would be the perfect venue and a continuation of what I do.

Herald: What do you think it means to be a trustee?

Reardon: I think being a trustee is an enormous opportunity to give back and serve a community that I hold so dear to my heart.

Herald: What other activities are you involved in around the village?
