Five Lynbrook boys receive scoutings highest honor

Posted

Five Lynbrook residents, all of whom graduated from high school earlier this year, received Eagle Scout designation on Sept. 2 from Troop 336 of Lynbrook.

Alexander Burns, Derek Colannino, Paul Papandrew and Sebastian Percy, all of Lynbrook High School’s class of 2014, and Brian Kearney, of Kellenberg Memorial High School’s class of 2014, were presented with a medal and badge in honor of their achievements at the Lynbrook Knights of Columbus on Hempstead Avenue.

In order to earn their new rank, which is the highest attainable for a Boy Scout, they each had to ear at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate “Scout Spirit” through service, leadership and the Boy Scout Oath and Law. Scouts also had to organize and lead an extensive leadership project.

Burns’ project aided Storage Bins for the Faith Mission, Inc. Colannino served with the St. James Classroom Conversion, Kearney with Parish Facelift, Papandrew with Help Us Help Our Veterans, and Percy helped fundraise, purchase and train a new Automatic External Defibrillator.

The title of Eagle Scout was introduced by the Boy Scouts of America in 1911, and has since been awarded to over 2 million scouts. Since 1958, Lynbrook’s Troop 336 has given the rank to 60 boy scouts.
