Lynbrook resident and Village Trustee Hilary Becker was named Person of the Year by the Lynbrook Moms’ and Dads’ Club at its annual Lynbrook High School Varsity seniors dinner on June 6 at Temple Avodah in Oceanside.

The Mom’s and Dad’s Club is the Lynbrook School District’s official athletic support club. It has been in existence for more than 70 years.

“Hilary Becker was chosen as our person of the year because of his years of commitment and dedication to the Lynbrook wrestling community — along with his tireless work on behalf of our entire community as a whole,” said Sean Strife, who is on the executive board of the Club, and will be serving as co-president next year. He and his wife, RoseAnne, coordinated this year’s gala dinner.

“Being chosen is a great honor for me and my family,” said Becker. “The Moms’ and Dads’ Club is one of the finest volunteer organizations in all of Lynbrook and it’s a great feeling to be recognized by them. They’re the leaders in giving back to the community, and to receive this recognition from them is just a great feeling.  It’s always a blessing for me to support them, and the Lynbrook High School athletes.”

Becker added that his family has a strong bond with the Club. “Many years ago, my mom and aunt were both volunteers for the Club, and my Uncle Bob Becker was their honoree in 1990. The Varsity Dinner is always a fun event to be a part of, and in honor of my dad and uncle, who were both LHS Varsity wrestlers, we’ve been presenting the Becker Brothers award since the 1950’s. The dinner is the highlight for Lynbrook athletes for over 70 years,” Becker said, “and I remember how great it felt when I attended the dinner many years ago as an LHS varsity wrestler.”

Becker is president and founder of Becker Realty Services, Inc. Prior to which he was an assistant vice president for J.P. Morgan Investment Management Inc. He has served on numerous boards for both professional and philanthropic organizations, including serving as president of the Long Island Board of Realtors Appraisal Division, and president of the Greater New York chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management. He is also a past president of Momma’s House, Inc., president of Nathan Hale Senior Housing Inc., president of the Lynbrook Youth Athletic Association

Just some of Becker’s involvement and support in the community and local organizations include the Lynbrook New Vision Party, the Lynbrook Elks Club, Our Lady of Peace Church, St. Raymond’s Church, Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce, Lynbrook High School Moms’ & Dads’ Club, Temple Am Echad, Lynbrook Fire Dept., and the Frank J. Becker Academic Scholarship Foundation.

He is well versed as an expert in all real estate matters, and as such serves as an expert witness for the New York State Judicial System, and is an Adjunct Professor for both Long Island University and Molloy College.

But Becker is most passionate about his family and he and his wife Geralyn have 4 children, Noelle, Joseph, David, and Thomas. As a life long resident of Lynbrook, he has followed the Becker family tradition of serving the community that started in 1905 when his Great Grandfather Max Becker moved to Lynbrook.

The evening also included many of the district’s scholar athletes being honored, along with others being honored for sportsmanship and for their on-field performances.
