A canine officer at the scene immediately released his dog, Lex, who quickly apprehended Shaw. The defendant continued to resist arrest by kicking at the dog and the officers. The officers regained control of the defendant and placed him under arrest. OC spray was used to assist in affecting the arrest. Shaw was treated by an AMT at the scene. No further injuries were reported.
Shaw is charged with Resisting Arrest, Escape 3rd degree, Aggravated Driving while Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated and Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions. He was arraigned on Sunday, Dec. 29 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Officer pushed down stairs, police say
The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Levittown woman for assault that occurred in East Rockaway on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 11 pm.
According to detectives, Fourth Precinct Police responded to a domestic disturbance call that occurred at a Third Avenue residence.
While resolving the matter a Fourth Precinct Police Officer was at the top of stairs  escorting the defendant Veronica R. Berk, 31, of Grace Lane, Levittown out of the residence at which time she pushed the police officer down the stairs. The officer sustained injuries to his left leg and to his abdominal area. He was transported by a Nassau County Ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment.
Berk is charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Obstructing Government Administration 2nd Degree. She was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, Dec. 30.
