The East Rockaway Board of Education announced its choice for superintendent as Lisa Ruiz, effective August 1.

“We greatly anticipate her arrival,” said School Board President Kristin Ochtera, “and we have great expectations for her.”

Ruiz, speaking from the podium, thanked the members of the Board for the appointment.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be appointed tonight as superintendent of the East Rockaway School District,” Ruiz said. “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for me to join such and outstanding school district and community. My first few months will be a time of learning — learning about the students, programs, and activities, your community; learning about the things that you value and the challenges that you face.

“I look forward to working together with the Board of Education, the facility, administrators, parents, community members and especially the wonderful students of the East Rockaway school district ... to continue to chart a course of continuous progress and growth. It will be a pleasure to meet each of you.”
