East Rockaway native George DuPrey dies

Longtime Rockville Centre resident and East Rockaway native George DuPrey died on April 8 from complications following a stroke. He was 89.

Born in East Rockaway, DuPrey lived in Rockville Centre since the 1950s. He moved there with his first wife, Mary Lee DuPrey, after he served in Egypt in World War II as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force.

DuPrey founded the DuPrey Construction Company in 1955. Over the years, he worked on the homes of many people in Rockville Centre.

In 1964, his wife died. He married Edith Corvelle on April 7, 1967.

DuPrey is survived by his children James DuPrey, Stephen DuPrey, Joseph DuPrey, George DuPrey. Stephen Corvelle, Janice Heffernan and Laurel Book. He was predeceased by his son, Douglas Corvelle.

A wake was held at Thomas A. Glynn and Son Funeral Home on April 14. He was interred at Long Island National Cemetery on April 14.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in DuPrey’s name to either the Church of the Ascension, at 71 North Village Ave., or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
