Her ‘Destiny’: Local author pens fourth book

Lynbrook resident and author Cindy Springsteen, 52, has just released her fourth book, a true-based romance novel that hits quite close to home.

Her first three books were children’s books, and she said she’s had to “reinvent” herself for a different market.

“It took five years [for this book],” said Springsteen. “It’s basically true, taken from my diaries — but I was told that memoirs don’t sell very well, so it became what in the industry calls “true-based fiction.”

She said that book two, three and four in this series are in the works, as well as a screenplay. “The story is what happened to me, exactly as I remember it, the good and the bad.”

Springsteen, who lives in Lynbrook with her husband, Daniel, and her children Rebecca, 20 and Daniel, 17, is the author of three other books, all children’s book, a series called “Waffles and Pancakes” — books about friendship, bullying, and the true meaning of Christmas.

Springsteen said that she started writing poetry in her teens, especially after arguments with boyfriends. (She went on to win an Outstanding Achievement Award in Poetry from the International Society of Poets in 2005.)

She started writing the childrens’ books in 1989, even before she had her own offspring. “Then I dug the books out of the attic, and my kids loved them,” Springsteen said, after she read the stories to her own children. She had her own business, working from home doing medical transcribing, and now is also a virtual assistant for a top author, helping to run media sites and setting up marketing plans. “The rest of the time, I’m writing book two, hoping to be finished by the end of the year.
