Gathering Time
Malverne-based Stuart Markus brings his folk trio Gathering Time to Garden City for an evening of harmonious folk melodies. Markus, Glen Roethel and Hillary Foxsong are acclaimed on Long Island and throughout the northeast folk scene for their soaring harmonies and dynamic sets that range from sweet and sentimental to joyous and energetic, irreverently funny to heart-stoppingly serious. Their eclectic shows include new twists on traditional folk and beloved classics from the ‘60s – and they’ve been known to delight audiences when they sprinkle in their own tunes. This will be their final concert in their present form; founding member Roethel will be leaving the band, and fellow Long Islander Gerry McKeveny will step in.
Friday, March 1, 8:30 p.m. (with open mic at 7:30 p.m.) $20 in advance, $22 at door. Garden Stage at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Central Nassau, 223 Stewart Ave., Garden City. (516) 248-8891 or www.gardenstage.com.

Nunsense II: The Second Coming
Plaza Theatrical Productions brings the Little Sisters of Hoboken back to the intimate Showplace at the Bellmore Movies in this sequel to the international hit “Nunsense.” The same five nuns return to the stage for what is billed as a “Thank you, Programme” for their supporters. And the antics begin. Forced to work around the set of The Mikado (being presented the following week by the local music society) they decide to stick to their successful formula and present a variety show. Complications arise when a supposed talent scout is rumored to be in the audience and the Franciscan nuns are backstage trying to kidnap Sr. Mary Paul (known as Amnesia) who won the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes.
Sunday, March 3, 2 p.m., through March 24. $28, $20 seniors and students. The Show Place at the Bellmore Movies, 222 Pettit Ave., Bellmore. (516) 599-6870 or www.plazatheatrical.com.
