Kudos to former Mayor Bloomberg, who's right on Israel

On July 22, the Federal Aviation Administration banned U.S. flights to and from Israel due to security concerns after a rocket fell near Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv. Several European carriers followed suit, forcing thousands of travelers to change their plans as the ban was extended.

As the bitter Israel-Hamas conflict continues to rage on, new developments keep the world waiting and watching to see what will happen next. I strongly believe that we should not let Hamas intimidate us and scare travelers on their way to or from Israel, and I applaud former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for proving by his actions that he, for one, would not allow that to happen.

Just hours after the FAA ban went into effect, Bloomberg boarded an El Al flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Ben Gurion. His reasoning was simple: to express solidarity with the Israeli people and show the world that Israel’s airports remain open and safe.

Mike was right. And he’s not the only one speaking out in support of Israel. My good friend Howard Stern, a Long Island native, isn’t always all fun and games on the radio. He made a profound statement about Israel, saying, “If you’re anti-Israel, then you’re anti-America. It’s the only democracy over there. It’s the only friend we have who’s willing to fight and stand up for what’s right.”

We must defend our friend Israel. Hamas wants nothing more than to close down Israel’s airport, in order to isolate the country from the international community and at the same time damage Israel’s economy. The closing of the airport could be construed as a victory for Hamas.
