Vote for bond

To the Editor:

On March 15, residents will have an opportunity to decide the future of our school district by voting on a bond to renovate Lynbrook High School.
The District’s Long-Range Planning Committee worked with our architects to analyze the conditions of the school. Anonymous community surveys were also conducted, and the result is a comprehensive scope of work that will bring Lynbrook High School into the 21st century.

The renovations will address insufficient instructional space, outdated science and technology rooms, and library services that don’t support our 21st century curriculum. Additional instructional space, new specialized science and research labs, and a new digital learning environment center will support our STEAM curriculum, expanded focus on the humanities and multiple pathways to college and careers.
Insufficient music instruction, rehearsal and performance space will be addressed by the creation of a new performing arts center with expanded seating for 646. A portion of the existing auditorium will be repurposed for small-group academic instruction, lectures and presentations. A new student support center will properly address the needs of all students.

The total cost of the bond is $45,156,188. An approved bond will enable the district to receive 22 percent in state building aid, reducing the cost to taxpayers. The cost to the average Lynbrook homeowner would be approximately $357 per year, or 98 cents per day.

We are mindful of our duty to be fiscally responsible, while ensuring all children receive a quality education. We are confident the bond represents the best interests of our children and community. To learn more, visit the district’s website, www.lynbrookschools.org.
Please vote on March 15 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Lynbrook High School, North Middle School or South Middle School.
