Lynbrook nanny arrested for leaving child in car

Shoplifting among charges, police say

A Lynbrook woman was arrested for reckless endangerment of a child after she allegedly left the child unattended in a vehicle parked the Broadway Mall parking lot in Hicksville on June 24.

Second Precinct officers responded to the scene and discovered a three-year-old female child was left in a child seat in the rear of a 2006 Dodge Caravan parked near Target. The officers gained access to the vehicle and soon after Christine Nunes, 37, nanny to the child, arrived back to the car.

Nunes was found with merchandise she had allegedly shoplifted from Target. She was arrested without incident. The child was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for dehydration and released to her father.

Nunes was charged with petit larceny and first-degree reckless endangerment. She was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead.
