Lynbrook post office to host passport fair

Lynbrook Postmaster Carol Koch and her staff will host a Passport Fair at the Lynbrook Post Office, located at 100 Broadway, to provide customers with a convenient opportunity to apply for passports.

The Passport Fair will be held on Monday, Feb. 15 and Tues., Feb. 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Postal officials will be on hand to accept Passport applications. Appointments are not necessary – but you can call 516 599-7587.

Koch explained that the United States Postal Service can accept first time passport applicants and offer information for renewals. With enhanced travel security, passports are the prime accepted identification for travelers.

“We want to offer our customers a convenient time to apply for passports so we are hosting the Fair during the school holiday,” Koch said. "Both parents are required to be present to issue a passport to a child.

Koch offered these helpful tips for applying for a passport:

► Fill out the application (DS11), before you come to the post office – but don’t sign it.

► Bring proof of US citizenship (provide one of the following)

· Previous fully valid U.S. Passport

· Certified U.S. birth certificate

· Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth

· Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship

► Proof of identity (Current, valid driver’s license – Government employee ID – Military ID)

► Children under age 16, the child both parents must be present.

► Postal officials can take the photographs for a $15 fee per person.
