On Nov. 22, at Phelps Field in North Babylon, The Lynbrook Titans Football 7 and 8-year-olds Pee Wee Team competed for and won the Titan’s first Super Bowl championship since re-launching the program three seasons ago.

Having earned their spot, the Titans faced off against Bethpage Gold and put together a complete effort, defeating them by a final score of 27-0. The Titans were able to hoist the Championship trophy and celebrate their big win in front of almost 200 friends, family and Titans supporters.

The program has grown from one team of 17 9 and 10-year-old players to over 90 players competing in four different age groups ranging from 5 to 12 years old. The football players are supported by a cheer organization consisting of over 90 cheerleaders as well.

This season, under Head Coach Ray Longwood, the Titans’ Pee Wee Team competed week in and week out, and earned themselves a spot in the Nassau Suffolk Football League’s Tier 3 Super Bowl playoffs. The Titans had to beat teams from Valley Stream and Levittown in successive weeks to get to the Super Bowl.

Homecoming Day

On Nov. 1, the Lynbrook Titans Youth Football and Cheer Organization celebrated its first annual Homecoming Day by playing four football games and honoring local United States Military Veterans.

The Titans Organization kicked off the action with their Peanuts Team, made up of 5 and 6-year-olds, who were joined on the field by local U.S. military veterans for the presentation of The Colors by the United States Marine Corps Color Guard and the singing of The Star Spangled Banner by members of the Lynbrook High School chorus.

The Titans, with the help of the Lynbrook Veterans of Foreign Wars Howard-Lathrop Post No. 2307, were able to secure Lynbrook High School chorus members to sing The National Anthem and Color Guards from both the Lynbrook American Legion Post No. 335 and the VFW Howard-Lathrop Post No. 2307 for the remaining three games. Local veterans were invited on the field for all pre-game activities at all of the games — and received warm ovations for their service, dedication and sacrifice.

A highlight of the day came when the Titan’s 9 and 10- year-old team members walked on to the field accompanied by two bagpipers with Titans players carrying flags representing all branches of the United States Military and POW/MIA.

After the pre-game activities, the Titans delivered on the field, taking home the only Lynbrook win on the day, qualifying them for the Nassau Suffolk Football League Playoffs.
