Raiders will take the field!

Practices will go on at South Field in Bay Park; games locations to be determined

Despite field closures at Bay Park, the East Rockaway Raiders will be taking the field for practices beginning Aug. 1, according to the County and East Rockaway Raiders Athletic Association director Chris Paris.
“Nassau County has been working closely with the East Rockaway Raiders Youth Football organization to ensure that the teams continue to use Bay Park as their practice area during the Bay Park resiliency project,” said Mike Martino, spokesperson for the County. “The organization will be able to use the park’s south side fields and bring in portable lights to illuminate the fields.”
“The County has been very accommodating in making the South side field available to us,” said Paris.
The first practice will be on Aug. 1, a Friday, and then thereafter on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Games are usually played at Lynbrook’s South Middle School field, which is now under construction due to work there. “We’re talking about playing at Marion Street or other locations … we have some alternatives.”

The games start the week after Labor Day and, depending on if they are participating in playoffs, will end before or after Thanksgiving.

About the Raiders
The East Rockaway Raiders Athletic Association has been around for more than 40 years. They are a full contact travel football organization, playing throughout Nassau County, sponsoring teams from 5 to 11 years old. The teams are all single-age groups, so all kids on our teams are the same age with lower weight limits that other leagues, providing a better experience for your child.
They are fully insured, and purchase new equipment each year. Their coaches are required to take certification courses annually.
They welcome players from the towns of East Rockaway, Lynbrook, Oceanside, Malverne, Rockville Centre, Island Park, Hewlett, Woodmere and Valley Stream.
