Cakes created by Valencia Bakery have been known to the New York metropolitan area for more than 60 years. This popular establishment, which first opened in the Bronx in 1948, is family-owned, and run by Michael Eberle.

Valencia Bakery’s outlets are located throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, and most recently, a store was opened in East Meadow, Long island. All cakes are baked in their 10,000-square-foot Bronx manufacturing facility, which employs a baking staff of 20. So, no matter which Valencia Bakery outlet you purchase your cake from, the quality will be identical.

While they do offer some other confections, like cookies, flan and pastries, Valencia Bakery is 99 percent about cakes for all occasions. Each store carries ready-made cakes, which can be personalized on the spot. However, they are known for their made-to-order cakes, which are unique and custom designed. Three-day notice is suggested for orders, and the cake will be baked on the day it is needed.

The Cake Gallery on their website — www.valenciabakery.net — displays over 200 photographs of cakes for numerous occasions, sentiments and events. Birthdays, weddings, holidays, graduations, retirement, Christenings, baby showers, and sports are just a few. Themes of any kind can be rendered, as well as photographs (the guest of honor, a new car or house, etc) to be placed on top. Customers are encouraged to bring in any special additions they would like to embellish the cake.

Round cakes can be ordered from six inches to 14, and can also be stacked. Square can be 12 by 12 inches or 16 by 16. Sheet cakes are available in half-size or full, which can feed up to 130 people.

Fillings abound, there’s chocolate, coconut, custard, and at least a dozen fruit options to choose from. Icing can be butter cream, whipped cream, fondant or butter cream cheese. They will also do customized ice cream cakes and cupcakes.

Orders can be taken by phone or in person at the store. Many questions will be asked (preferences, allergies, colors, etc.) to make sure everything is right. “We want people to get the best quality and value, and will even make suggestions to help them save money,” said Eberle, who is passionate about what they offer and good customer service.

Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
