A small fire broke out at East Rockaway High School early Tuesday afternoon.

According to 1st Assistant Chief Ed Reicherter, construction workers were cutting pipes within the wall near the cafteria, located toward the back of the school.

“It was a small fire around the window frame, and it was contained,” Reicherter said. There was some damage to the window, and firefighters had to pull the wood frame out to make sure that they got it all.

At Reicherter’s request, Lynbrook Fire Department sent its ladder company in case the fire was worse than it seemed. They were on the scene on standby. There were no injuries.
