Rabbi David Freedman, of Cedarhurst, received his New York State chaplain certificate on Aug. 22. He was sworn in as a Jewish chaplain with the state’s chaplain task force.

The state group is a nonprofit organization that is affiliated with the U.S. Chaplain Task Force. The group trains, retains and sends volunteer interfaith community crisis chaplains to places where people are in need of spiritual and emotional support, including local and state agencies and public and private institutions.

All certified chaplains have undergone comprehensive background checks at the local, state and federal levels, and are certified in mental health first aid and first aid, CPR and using an automated external defibrillator. They are available 24/7, 365 days a year. For more information, go to www.nychaplaincyservices.org.
