East Rockaway incumbents to run uncontested

Unlike Lynbrook, the Village of East Rockaway’s March 19 election will be uncontested, as Mayor Bruno Romano, Trustee Rich Bilello and Trustee Gordon Fox run for re-election without opposition.

In a statement to the Herald, the candidates laid out policy proposals that they would like to implement over the next four years. The first thing they said they would work on is finalizing the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery projects to “bring to a conclusion much needed storm hardening, infrastructure repairs, as well as road improvements in much of the flood plain south of Main Street,” the statement reads.

The mayor and trustees also said that they would continue to support the Fire Department, create community events, improve the parks, communicate the village’s law enforcement needs to the Fourth Police Precinct of the Nassau County Police Department, and that they would seek to provide naloxone trainings to prepare residents on how to help someone who is dealing with an opioid overdose. Additionally, they said, they would look to revitalize East Rockaway’s waterfront and add more diverse cuisine options.

But most importantly, they said, “we want to be three elected officials that, while not perfect, will always be someone that brings respect and dignity to our office and to the village of East Rockaway.”
