A Lynbrook man was sentenced on May 7 to seven months in jail and was ordered to pay more than $128,000 in restitution for impersonating an attorney and stealing more than $100,000 from Brooklyn homeowners.

Ceasar Roberts, 57, pled guilty to grand larceny in the second-degree and violating certain sections of the judiciary law on March 26.

“This con artist is headed to jail because he falsely claimed to be an attorney to earn his victims’ trust, stole more than $128,000 of their hard-earned money, and squandered it on travel and personal expenses,” said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.

According to Singas, from Aug. 2013 through Aug. 2014, Roberts misrepresented himself as an attorney practicing under the Law Office of Caesar Consulting and Advisory Group, Inc. Two victims from Brooklyn retained Roberts as an attorney in Aug. 2013 to represent them on a foreclosure judgment and later on mortgage modification for properties they owned. The victims paid the defendant more than $175,000 for his services, of which he spent $20,000 on the foreclosure judgment and returned $30,000 to the homeowners. More than $100,000 was not returned to the victims.

Singas said that in April 2017, the homeowners wrote a letter to Roberts asking him to return their unused funds, but he spent the money on travel, entertainment, automobile and living expenses.

The case was referred to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office from the New York State Department of Financial Services in July 2015, and the agencies conducted a joint investigation.
