Malverne High School principal named Leader in Education

Malverne High School Principal Vincent Romano was recently selected as a Leader in Education by St. John’s University. Nominated by the School of Education Alumni Committee, he was chosen for his accomplishments in and dedication to the field of education.

With 15 years in the Malverne Union Free School District and 20 years overall in education, Romano has served as principal of the high school since 2013. During his tenure, Malverne High School has been named to the National A.P. Honor Roll three times, ranked among the top high school’s in the national on The Washington Post’s Most Challenging High School’s list, and was featured for exemplary teaching, leadership and teamwork leading to improved student success in the book, “Schools That Succeed,” by Karin Chenoweth.

Romano earned both his bachelor’s degree in history and his master’s degree in secondary education from SUNY Stony Brook and his doctorate in administration and instructional leadership from St. John’s University. He has served as a presenter at national, state and local conferences and was named a Phi Delta Kappa “Friend of Education” award winner by Molloy College in 2008. He was also the recipient of the SCOPE Education Award for Exemplary Leadership in 2015.

“This award is a tremendous honor as I have always held the faculty and staff of St. John’s University in the highest esteem,” Romano said in a news release. “I share this recognition with my family, friends, and colleagues as I always feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such amazing and supportive people.”

He will be honored at the 11th annual Leaders in Education Dinner on April 3.
