Memorial Day weekend will be a splash at the Lynbrook village pool

With Memorial Day being the unofficial start of summer, the Lynbrook village pool will be open this weekend, starting on Saturday at 10 a.m., and will also be open Sunday and Monday.
“We want people to come down and join the pool,” Parks Supervisor Pat McDermott said at Monday’s village board meeting. “We’re open. Come on in, we’ll sign you up. It’s a great pool, a fantastic pool and you get your money’s worth. You get 86 days of summer in the pool.”
After Memorial Day weekend, the pool will only be open on weekends through June 15, after which it will be accessible for members daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. up until Labor Day. The facilities include a slide pool, a kiddie pool and a regular swimming pool, as well as a revamped concession stand.
Seasonal workers and members of the Department of Public Works have been prepping the facility for months to get it ready for the summer.
To enjoy the pool, Lynbrook and Rockville Centre residents have to present two proofs of residency to the Lynbrook Recreation Center. One of these proofs of residency must be photo identification.

A family membership costs Village of Lynbrook residents $365, and costs residents of the unincorporated part of Lynbrook $470. An individual plan for an adult Village of Lynbrook resident is $170 for the season, and costs an adult from the unincorporated part $200. The Recreation Department offers 10 percent discounts for veterans and members of the Fire Department.
Rockville Centre residents are permitted to use the pool because of a 2015 agreement between the two villages. Before this agreement, Rockville Centre residents were petitioning their village’s elected officials to build a pool. Instead, Mayor Francis X. Murray called late Mayor William Hendrick to work out an agreement, which is still in place, though Rockville Centre residents pay more for use $780 for families and $520 for individuals.
The staff at the pool also offers swimming lessons, registration for which beings on June 2. The first session is two classes per week for four weeks in July, while the second is four classes per week for two weeks in August. In addition, the facility has a summer swim team, which has won the Nassau Municipal Swim Conference championship for two straight years.

East Rockaway residents who want to cool off in a pool are permitted to use the facility at Hewlett Point Park, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from June 15 through Sept. 2. For district residents, a seasonal family membership costs $226, while an individual membership is $121 and a non-resident day pass is $5.50. For non-district residents, the breakdown is $266 for a family, $145 for an individual and $650 for a daily pass.
