Posted

Nassau County police were able to talk an apparently suicidal man down form the edge of the overpass on the Meadowbrook Parkway at Jerusalem Avenue, on the border of North Bellmore and Uniondale, on Nov. 13.

According to one witness, bystanders helped defuse the situation as well.

Police said that at 4:04 p.m., dispatch received a call about a possible suicidal male on the overpass. Officers Quizhpi, Barry and Schuerlein responded, and got close to the 22-year-old male. While speaking to him, they were able to pull him to safety, police said.

Sergeants Healy and Price, and Officer Sovaras, also assisted by removing a chain link fence so officers could quickly get to the man.

The man was taken to an area hospital for evaluation after the rescue.
