Re-elect William Belmont, Heather Hanson in Lynbrook

Posted

Board of Education President William Belmont and Trustee Heather Hanson have diligently served the students of the Lynbrook School District and deserve to be re-elected to the board.

Belmont has served on the board for 12 years, and Hanson has been a member for six years. During this time, the board completed many innovations and initiatives. Among the accomplishments were the creation of an extension to North Middle School to make it handicapped-accessible, a district-wide tablet program and a career development program that was instituted for high school students. Residents also showed their trust in the direction of the board by voting to approve a $28.9 million bond to fund improvements and upgrades to all of the schools in the district after a lengthy period of gathering residents’ feedback.

The district is thriving under the board’s current leadership, and we see no reason to remove Belmont or Hanson, who are both passionate about the students they advocate for and the community at large. Belmont and Hanson have overseen dozens of new programs in the community and have many ideas for the future, which include a wide array of electives that they said they hope to implement.

Though challengers Dana Franklin and Danielle Longo bring a wealth of community experience, we don’t see a need for a changing of the guard.

Franklin and Longo have been heavily involved at North Middle School, serving on the Compact Committee, and had many interesting ideas to help the district grow. We encourage them to stay involved and run again in the future.
