Amid New York Surf Week, July 10 to 14, a group of Herald Community Newspapers editors — Bridget Downes, Melissa Koenig, Nadya Nataly, Alyssa Seidman and Brian Steiglitz — and intern Frank Gargano hit the waves, taking a surfing lesson at the famed Skudin Surf in Long Beach.
The crew began on the sand, learning to mount their boards and safely fall when washed out by a wave. Then they made their way into the water, which was relatively calm on this sunny, 85-degree day.
On hand were two instructors — Ian Skudin and Jairo Zuniga.
Before the surfing fun began, the group had a lunch of wraps and salads at the nearby Shakes & Shuckers, on the Long Beach Boardwalk.
