Vote for Eramo in the 20th Assembly District

Posted

Anthony Eramo, 42, is serving his second term on the Long Beach City Council. He is running against Republican Melissa Miller, a political neophyte, and Green Party candidate Joseph Naham. Eramo has a clear grasp of the issues, and has been a tremendous advocate for the community and environment.

If elected, he has pledged to work with State Sen. Todd Kaminsky, a Democrat who is up for re-election, to push reforms to weed out corruption in Albany. We agree with Eramo that ethics reforms passed by the State Legislature in June fall short, and that more needs to be done to address corruption. Eramo supports stripping lawmakers of their pensions if they are convicted of crimes, closing the LLC loophole and limiting lawmakers’ outside income.

A Superstorm Sandy victim, Eramo has experienced the complexities and frustration of dealing with New York Rising and has fought to ensure that critical storm-resiliency projects move forward. He has also pledged to make sure that funding for Long Beach bulkheads along the bay and other plans move forward at the state level.

Eramo led an effort to oppose a liquefied natural gas terminal in the Atlantic Ocean, off Long Beach, which Governor Cuomo vetoed last year, and he supports off-shore wind energy.

We laud Miller’s advocacy for special-needs children and medicinal marijuana, and urge her to continue her civic involvement and gain political experience at a more local level. Though we applaud Naham for his environmental platform, he lacks the experience to represent the district effectively.

Vote for Eramo on Election Day.
