An Oceanside woman with deep ties to Lynbrook was struck and killed by a car on Oct. 26.

Nassau County police did not release the identity of the victim, but her brother, Lynbrook Deputy Mayor Hilary Becker, later confirmed that Christina Becker died in the accident. She was 67.

“With deep sadness, I send this very difficult message that my dear sister Christina, the oldest of 12 children, tragically and suddenly passed away early Saturday morning,” Becker wrote in an email to the Herald. “She was a wonderful sister, mother, aunt, and friend to so many. At 67, her life has ended way to soon.” The Beckers have many political ties as the late Francis X. Becker was a former county legislator and judge, and his son, Francis, is running against State Sen. Todd Kaminsky in this year’s election.

According to a release by the Nassau County Police Department, Christina was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze when attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Atlantic Avenue, near Terrell Avenue, in Oceanside.

Police did not identify the driver, but an NCPD report said that the person remained at the scene after striking Becker and the accident is still under investigation. After the collision, Becker suffered multiple trauma injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

According to her obituary on the website for Perry Funeral Home, Becker had many talents and a lot of wisdom, loved her cats and was very religious. She worked as a bookkeeper and was also a thoroughbred horse trainer and manager, a veterinarian assistant and an artist. She served as a lector at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, in Malverne, and was a lifelong learner, earning associates degrees in computer science and programming, studies she continued to pursue at Hofstra University.

Becker was predeceased by her father, Francis and her mother, Elizabeth Betsy Becker. When Francis was diagnosed with dementia, she dedicated many hours to him, taking him to the movies and out to dinner, cooking for him, feeding him and keeping him company.

In her honor, the Becker family requests that donations be made to HorseAbility at SUNY Old Westbury, P.O. Box 410-1, Old Westbury, N.Y. 11568 or the Nassau County SPCA, 510 Grumman Road West, Bethpage, N.Y. 11714.

Becker’s wake was Oct. 30 at Perry Funeral Home, 118 Union Ave., Lynbrook. The funeral Mass was scheduled for Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 65 Wright Ave., Malverne, after the Herald went to press.
