A Community's Bravest
The Elmont Fire Department was on standby and did its part in helping repair the damages Sandy caused to the community.

The Elmont Fire Department looks back at a busy and successful year under Chief Angelo Chilelli. Chilelli, who has served the customary one-year term as Chief and will be replaced on May 1 by current First Assistant Chief Domenic Francavilla, led the Department through fires and emergencies resulting from super storm Sandy. By the numbers, the Department had:

1,764 – Total number of alarms

1,404 – Fire Calls (Including auto accidents)

360 – Ambulance Calls

99 - Calls during Super storm Sandy (10/29 – 11/3)

43 - Calls during the Nor-Easter on 11/7/12

86 - Auto accidents on the Southern State Parkway

43 - Alarms at Belmont Race Track

10 - Working fires
