This weekend: A world of pure imagination

“It’s been a real ‘treat’ to do a fun-filled show that everyone knows from the two movie versions,” said Sal Canepa, an Oceanside resident who plays the title role. “Our show focuses on the five families in the show, — something that the theater group has always treasured. We’ve always had a reputation of being a true family troupe of performers both on stage and off. When last year’s production of “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” was shut down due to Sandy, we, as a family, decided to give back to our community and perform the show as fundraiser for the Lincoln Orens Middle School.

The show’s director, Marti Renoud-DiPaola, agreed.

“The cast and crew of the Island Park Theatre Group’s production of Willy Wonka is made up of an amazing group of talented individuals,” she said. “Our Wonkerers are simply amazing! This has been a wonderful experience to share within our local Island Park and Long Beach communities after the storm. We hope families come and see all the hard work — and fun — that went into this.”
