Covert Avenue hosts Greek Olympics

More than one hundred sixth-graders competed in Covert Avenue School’s annual Greek Olympics on Feb. 13 in the Elmont School District.

Held in front of family and friends, the gymnasium was transformed into an arena where the Greek kings and queens could battle it out through events such as rope climbing, relay races and a frisbee toss.

Emceed by the “Queen” of Covert Avenue, Principal Mary Natoli, the event highlighted the histories of territories such as Sparta, Troy, Olympia, Athens and Corinth and served to reinforce the sixth-grade unit on Greece.
